Maps and Trails

Click on the following links for maps to Magee, and for maps of birding trails at Magee

Directions to Magee Marsh

Magee Marsh is located on Ohio route 2, which stretches from Toledo in the west to Port Clinton in the east.  If you fly in to Detroit, you can take route 75 to a hotel in Toledo and then drive to Magee via route 2.  If you fly into Cleveland, you'll want to take interstates 90 and 80 to your chosen lodging in either Toledo or one of the smaller towns south of Magee, such as Fremont or Clyde.  Fremont and Clyde are about a 40 minute drive to Magee via route 19, as is Toledo via route 2.

The Magee Boardwalk

There are a number of trails at Magee, but the only ones worth concentrating on during a first trip are those at and around the boardwalk.  If you take the park's access road all the way to the very end, you'll find yourself at the parking area in front of the boardwalk, as shown in the map below.

Most visitors park in the westernmost parking lot and enter the boardwalk at the west platform.  Note that you'll often find good birding along the forest edge that borders the west platform and the west lawn and pedestrian road paralleling the middle parking lot.  Upon entering the boardwalk trail at the west end, you'll find that the complete trip from the west entrance to the east entrance of the boardwalk can take literally hours (depending on numbers of birds present), though the boardwalk itself is a bit under one mile in length.  As you'll learn on the Birding Tips page, there are specific parts of the boardwalk that warrant special attention, where birds (even specific species) tend to congregate.
